PRESENTATION OF THE ANCESTORS GROUP
ANCESTORS is a Togolese musical group with a strong stage presence, renowned for its powerful and immersive performances.
The group was born from the artistic residency Togo – France – Jamaica: Reggae Harmony with African Roots, funded by the European Union through the TOGO CRÉATIF programme.
On stage, ANCESTORS delivers a well-crafted fusion of roots reggae, contemporary music, traditional West African rhythms, sacred percussion and modern arrangements.
The result is a unifying, spiritual and dance-driven show that resonates with both African and international audiences

VISION & ARTISTIC CONCEPT
ANCESTORS promotes a music of memory, transmission and consciousness. The group draws from ancestral knowledge, sacred drums, initiatory chants and Pan-African heritage to create a contemporary musical language that is accessible and universal.
At the heart of this approach lies a strong conviction: reggae, like many modern musical styles, has its deepest roots in the traditional rhythms of West Africa. These rhythms—carriers of spirituality, resistance and social cohesion—crossed the Atlantic with displaced African peoples and re-emerged elsewhere in new forms.
This reflection led ANCESTORS to undertake an artistic and research residency focused on the links between traditional West African music and reggae. This process of cross-fertilisation, experimentation and transmission gave birth to a unique musical identity: ANCESTRAL GROOVE.
Ancestral Groove is an original musical expression born from the encounter between traditional West African rhythms, reggae and contemporary sounds. It is a spiritual, committed and unifying style that reaffirms Africa as a fundamental matrix of Afro-diasporic music.
The public presentation of this work at the Institut Français of Togo received strong acclaim from both audiences and professionals, marking a significant artistic and cultural success.
